Octave Mongrain was the eldest of three children.
His father, Joseph, drowned when Octave was five and a half years old.
In 1901 census, at the age of 17, he was living with the “Head” of household, a 36 year old priest in Midland, Leuisa O. Barcelo, and his 20 year old “Housekeeper”named Ellen Blondin.
His relationship to the Head of household is shown as “Hostler” (a man employed to look after the horses.)
It also showed his occupation as “Portter”.
When he married, in 1910, he had been an electrician for 6 years and lived on Simcoe St., Penetanguishene, Ontario.
His mother resided with them until her death in 1920.
