Misc. Notes

Married at age 22.

In the 1851 census Lanark County, Pakenham, Roll C_11732, Pg 37, Line 4
Roger’s family was in a log shanty located on Lot 24, Con. 10, Pakenham Twp.

Roger built a log building in 1859 between the Opeongo Road and Constan Creek on the corner of the Charles Racroft property (Lots 66 & 67, Con. 8, Grattan Twp.). Charles had married Elizabeth Becket on Jan. 5, 1848 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pakenham, ON. Racrofts & Beckets came from Thurlow Parish, Co. Mayo.

The family then moved to Almonte, but no records have been found of them being there.

It is presumed that Roger & Margaret died before the 1871 Census which shows their children David (aged 13) and Margaret (aged 9) living in the home of their older sister, Martha and her farmer husband, Thomas Johnston in Clontarf, ON.

The 1871 Census also shows their other son, James (aged 12) staying with John & Ausilia McDowney near Dunrobin, ON. Current address of this location would be 2253 Dunrobin Rd. ( on West side of road where railway tracks cross Durobin Rd.).
